I have had an interest working with and training dogs since a youth and originally  trained obedience and agility dogs.  In 1999 I got my first Australian Shepherd, Kes, and have owned and worked aussies since.   I enjoy trialing in ASCA, AKC, AHBA, USBCHA and cowdog trials with my aussies.   I have had the opportunity to train/handle several dogs to WTCH’s, AKC/ AHBA Ch’s.

I really enjoy teaching privates lessons and clinics, and have experience with both upright and “eye” dogs. I have worked with most herding breeds ranging from corgis, shelties, collies, BC’s, kelpies, rotties and many

more.   Although I run Aussies, I have a love for all herding breeds and really enjoy getting the opportunity to work with so many great dogs and handlers.
My emphasis is on teaching the dog and handler to work together as a team, and to achieve calm, quiet, confident control of the livestock.  I believe in allowing/helping the dog to properly feel balance, take control of the stock and make good decisions.  My goal is to allow the dog to be able work, while being respectful of both the handler and livestock.

Dave and I met while going to school.  We were both earning Bachelors degrees on Animal Science and working for the school’s equine program.

I am currently competing with Tick, my 6 year old Aussie, in USBCHA Pro-Nov, AKC, AHBA & ASCA. I now have Newt, a Tick son. He is just a pup now, but is fitting into our lifestyle wonderfully and shows great promise to follow in his mothers foot steps.

I have worked with livestock since 1982 and have been using stock dogs since 1992. I have worked on ranches, feedlots, sheep outfits as well as on my own mixed farms. In 2001 I stretched my dogs beyond working situations when I began using my dogs in herding trials. As I used my dogs on livestock operations I would help other hands with their dogs and training, this continued as I began trialling till I now help people, most days, with their dogs and questions for both working and trialling purposes.

I train dogs with an emphasis on livestock handling, helping the dog to be where and doing the things they need too for control of their livestock. To do this I use

an approach of pressure and release using both direct and indirect pressure. My approach is to develop a relationship of honesty and respect between handler and dog which will then translate to the livestock. I also stress that the dog is respectful of the handler not just obedient.

I enjoy working all breeds of herd dogs as each breed has their strengths. In training dogs my feeling is; good work is good work regardless of breed. I have worked many different types of dogs, upright and eye breeds ranging from sensitive to strong temperments.
